So who am I and why am I doing this?

Basically, I’m just an average guy with above average dreams. I’m an adventurer, entrepreneur, and experimenter - and this is one of my many experiments. You can find more on my mini-blog - Incredibly Edible.

I have a burning desire to change the world for the better - whether it’s helping others lift themselves out of poverty, challenging the status quo, raising awareness of disregarded environmental degradation, or simply bringing a smile to a few faces.

I believe every person has a right to happiness and a fulfilling life. And I believe we have a responsibility to empower others to achieve that right.

I love travel, adventure, sunshine, natural swimming holes, flying through the air, teaching, gazing into a campfire, the Economist, my Trek 1000, snow, meeting cool people, Love & Respect, and my family (more than anything).

Currently, I live in Nashville, TN where you can find me riding my bike, reading in the park, playing Ultimate frisbee, rock climbing or working with companies on their environmental sustainability strategy. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2007 where I earned a degree in Psychology and Corporate Strategy, played some SEC football, and became an enthusiastic member of Alternative Spring Break. In February 2009, I’ll be heading to Shenzhen, China where I’ll continue with sustainability consulting and the opportunity to teach English part-time. After 4 months, I’ll load my backpack with only the essentials and set off across inner-China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and wherever else the wind takes me. Don’t worry, you’ll be hearing more from me during this adventure.

Why a Birthday Challenge?

It’s my belief that we should always be progressing as persons - mentally, physically, spiritually. Completing a challenge signifies this progression - a shedding off an old state and the realization of a new one - a new you. What day better than the day you add another year to your life?

In addition, what better way to spend a birthday than doing a bunch of things I love to do and doing them with good people. I plan on continuing the Birthday Challenge tradition long into the future. You should, too!
